Welcome to our Collection
Museum London has an outstanding art collection of more than 5000 works in a wide range of media, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, photographs, and installation and mixed media. The Museum's collecting activities are, in part, an extension of our ongoing support of local art practices, prioritizing the work of London artists and demonstrating regional trends and sensibilities alongside works of national significance which provide a broader context. While the art collection has a significant historical focus, the majority of the works date from the twentieth century to the present day.
In 2011-12, the Museum upgraded its computerized collections management system and digitized its art collection with the assistance of a grant from the Ontario Museums and Technology Fund. Since only a fraction of our collection can be exhibited at any one time, we are pleased to make our art collection more accessible to all users, to researchers and students, and to a wider audience through our new online database. This new system is fully searchable, providing information on the objects in our collection as well as images when copyright permissions allow. Our material culture records will follow at a later date.
Museum London would like to extend its sincere appreciation to all of the artists and copyright holders for their generosity in allowing their works to be reproduced in our online collection. The support of the Government of Ontario, through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, is gratefully acknowledged in the realization of this important project.
