Label TextThis is Marion Brown’s prosthetic leg. On May 17, 1899, Brown (1873-1899) hanged for the murder of London Constable Michael Toohey (1859-1898). Brown had arrived in London by rail on June 24, 1898. Wanted for an alleged attack on a nightwatchman, Brown encountered Toohey. Witnesses heard gunfire. They found Toohey’s body and a hat believed to be Brown’s. Although Brown claimed innocence, the jury found him guilty based on that hat.
