Original Gaol Windows

Credit LineCollection of Museum London, 1965
Object number1965.022.001
Label TextMuseum London records indicate that these two pieces are windows/openings from the London District Jail. Through them, inmates received their meals. It seems likely that they are from the new London jail, completed in 1846. The original jail had proven to be too small, leading to terrible overcrowding in the wake of the Upper Canada Rebellion (1837-1838).
