Label TextKing George VI (1895-1952) and Queen Elizabeth (1900-2002) visited London on June 7, 1939, a stop on their Canadian tour (May 17 to June 15). It was the first time a reigning monarch had visited Canada. Londoners, as with other Canadians, recognized the purpose of the visit: to muster support for England in the event of war.
