Label TextFormer Somerville managers, John McKinnon (J.K.) McDermid and Duncan Hugh McDermid, bought the company in 1911 and renamed it O-Pee-Chee. They were distributors of gum and sugar based confectionery products. It was operated in the Somerville plant until 1928 when the Adelaide Street Factory was built nearby. After the McDermid's retired, Frank Leahy took over. Shortly thereafter, the Leahy's sold the box works to the Weston Company and concentrated on the gum and candy business. The company was purchased by Nestlé Canada Inc. in 1996. Today, the company is best known for producing trading cards, with partnerships including the National Hockey League (NHL).
