Label TextScottish-born weaver John Campbell (1806-1891) made this figured coverlet. He worked in Middlesex County from 1852 to 1891. He used a handloom adapted to work with punch card technology. Weavers in France began to use punch cards and perforated paper to communicate patterns to looms in the early 18th century. Campbell’s original loom is still operational and is at the Ontario Science Centre.
