Label TextThe London Street Railway (LSR) operated from 1875-1940. The LSR provided public transit to Londoners through streetcars and before 1895, passenger wagons pulled by horses. After persistent operational issues, the LSR switched over to using diesel buses by 1940. Bus storage buildings can be seen in this technical drawing.
This drawing is one of many created by George Speake (1903-1981), an artist and signwriter who worked for C. E. Marley Limited. Speake worked for the company through its name changes, starting in the 1920's when it was called The Signry Limited and when it was renamed in 1927 to C.E. Marley Ltd. Outdoor Advertising, Electric Signs and Show Cards. In addition to creating signs and advertisements for C. E. Marley, Speake worked for various newspapers and at the London Street Railway (LSR) in 1936.
