Label TextThis coat came from Elsie Tucker, who served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps from 1942-1946. Some 22,000 Canadian women served in the CWAC between 1941 and 1946. Like the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force, the army recruited women to free men for combat roles. As CWACs, women worked as cooks, drivers, office workers, among other tasks. Although doing the same work that men had performed, women were paid less.
