Label TextThe batik silk suit comes from a well-known local designer, Doris Kanter, and represents an important type of cloth, briefly popular in the 1960's and 1970's. She handcrafted and dyed the fabrics in the batik style, which is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing that is applied to the whole cloth. The technique results in unique patterns each time it is done.
