Label TextThis rigid paper fan served a dual purpose. It generated a cooling breeze. It also served as the programme for the 51st annual D. S. Perrin Company picnic held at Port Stanley on July 28, 1923. One side depicts a young woman on the telephone. The opposite side names committee members, gives train departure times, and lists the nature and times of activities. The annual picnic was one of the many activities the company organized to foster good relations between employees and management. At such events, managers, workers, and their families gathered to play, eat, and bond. Positive relations, it was hoped, would ensure a loyal, long-lasting, and non-unionized workforce.
