Label TextDoris Oatman wore the "Arts '39" pin as a University of Western Ontario student between 1935 and 1939. She followed in the footsteps of Mary Cowan, the first woman to graduate in 1898. Established in 1878, Western began with four faculties: art, divinity, medicine, and law. It graduated its first two students in 1883. Today, the University has 12 faculties and graduates 10,000 students a year.
