Label TextLondon, Ontario's first St. Johns' Ambulance Brigage unit began operating in 1908 at the Congregational Church at 465 Horton. A year earlier, a player received a soccer a ball to the face during a game on the church grounds. While awaiting the doctor, William Loveday came forward with a first aid kit, provided care, and the doctor's services weren't needed. When his fellow Bible class attendees learned that William had received St. John Ambulance Brigade first aid training in London, England, they decided to form their own unit of the organization. The Forest City Ambulance Division No. 1 became the first St. John Ambulance Bridgage unit in Canada.
