Label TextInsert this roll into a player piano and the machine’s mechanism will read the perforations on the paper to play music from the 1930s. But the technology of encoding information on perforated paper is much older. The weaving industry used it first. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, weavers used perforated paper tapes to dictate the pattern of fabric their looms produced.
