Label TextKomoka, Ontario, weaver John Campbell (1806-1891) wove this pillow sham. Scottish-born Campbell, emigrated to the United States with his wife, Janet, her mother, and their young son, William, in 1841. A handloom weaver, he began to produce jacquard coverlets as early as 1842. In 1854, the family, which now included daughter Janet, left New York for Canada West. They first settled in Kilworth before moving to Komoka in 1864. Campbell continued to work as a weaver until his death in 1891.
