Label TextThis is a cardiopulmonary bypass machine. They are used to take over the function of the heart and lungs during cardiac surgery to maintain the circulation of blood and oxygen to the body. These machines allow surgeons to operate in a bloodless surgical field, usually while working on the heart. Cardio bypass machines can also be used to induce total body hypothermia to help prevent brain damage in patients. Reversely, these machines can be used to treat hypothermia by circulating warmed blood through the body.
