Label TextIn 1980, Labatt’s signed a 99-year licensing agreement to brew Budweiser, American brewery Anheuser-Busch’s popular “king of beers.” Labatt’s had tried to introduce its own versions of American-style beers but they did not sell well. When Budweiser proved popular, Labatt’s rejoiced. For its part, Anheuser-Busch enjoyed access to the Canadian market without having to pay tariffs.
