Label TextIn the 1940s, Labatt changed the name of its Brown Bitter Ale to Extra Stock Ale. This is a “stubby.” Canadian brewers used this style of bottle between 1962 and 1983 because it was economical. Easier to ship, stack, and store, the stubby could also be washed and reused up to 20 times. When brewers switched to the American longneck bottle in the 1980s, many Canadians mourned the loss of this piece of Canadiana.
