Label TextTheresa Smibert married John William Howard Griffiths on September 25, 1901. This marriage lasted until Theresa’s death 48 years later in 1950. Not all couples wanted this. Husbands could divorce their wives for adultery. Until 1925, wives had to prove that their husbands committed adultery. They also had to prove they had suffered desertion, bigamy, rape, sodomy, or bestiality.
