Label TextThese Sweetheart straws are made of waxed paper. American Marvin Stone filed a patent for a paraffin-coated paper straw in 1888. By 1890, his factory, which had manufactured cigarette holders, produced more straws than cigarette holders. Paper straws gave way to plastic in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, in response to concerns about single-use plastics, paper straws are coming back into their own.
