Label TextThe use of bells for alerting of fires originated in medieval Europe. Bell towers were installed in town centres and used to alert residents of emergencies. Fire bells such as this serve a similar purpose, on a smaller scale. This bell was likely installed in a fire station and used to alert firefighters when their services were needed during an emergency. The practice of installing alarms in fire halls was implemented in the late 1800s.
