Label TextThis certificate recognizes 12-year-old Louise Wyatt’s move from elementary to secondary school. The certificate names three kinds of schools: Collegiate institutes, high schools, and continuation schools. Created in the 1870s, they at first offered different programs of study, in part dictated by gender. By 1920, the differences were gone. The schools taught an academic curriculum designed to prepare students, girls and boys, for post-secondary education.
