Label TextThis sheet music features Guy Lombardo (1902-1977). Lombardo had studied with Pasquale Venuta, a musician hired by London’s Italian community to train its youth. Lombardo established his band in 1916. He and his Royal Canadians entered the American market in 1923. It took a couple of years but once they finessed their sound, they became a sensation. Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians sold more than 300 million records over a span of 50 years.
Carmen Lombardo wrote many of the songs performed by Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians. He also played saxophone and was the group’s lead singer until 1940. Although his older brother Guy (1902-1977) was the front man, Carmen has been described “as the true driving force behind the music group.”
