Label TextThese chainmail epaulettes belonged to Colour Sergeant John Hance, a member of the 7th Battalion Volunteer Militia from February 1856. Hance’s March 1868 discharge letter praises his service on the “’frontier,’ at Sarnia,” and during the 1866 Fenian Raid. He had “earned the esteem and goodwill” of all because of “his readiness and strict habits of discipline.”
