Label TextLondoners Wils and Ron Starling, Art Patterson, and Gerry Crooks formed the barbershop quartet, the Four Chorders. Audiences loved them. In 1953, they cut the album displayed here. Industry magazine Cash Box predicted that “the first release . . . should find a wide market as these London vocalists were the Ontario Barber Shop champions.”
This album cover made of cardboard protects and promotes the record within. Album covers existed from the 1910s. But only from the late 1930s did record companies hire artistic directors to oversee album cover art. They learned that eye-catching design and information about artists and their music boosted sales. This one drew consumers to the songs of London barbershop quartet, the Four Chorders.
