Label TextThis is an American unfolding or dissecting sphere, a mathematical demonstration tool and teaching aid. More often manufactured by European firms, this example was made by Albert H. Kennedy (1848-1940) of Rockport, Indiana, and is one of the few made in America. American companies used wood rather than the metal of European firms. They were made to be used by students rather than to be looked at. Kennedy's firm was the only one to use leather to join the moving segments.
