Label TextBritish immigrant Charles Wray brought this marking gauge with him when he came to London in 1906 in search of a better life. He used the tool to scribe fine lines parallel to an edge for laying out all kinds of joinery. Wray was part of a surge in British immigration to Canada at that time. Minister of the Interior Clifford Sifton had launched an aggressive recruitment campaign in Great Britain. Wihin a decade, after the First World War (1914-1918) began, immigration slowed to a trickle.
