Label TextThis taxidermy kit belonged to W. E. Saunders (1861-1943), an amateur ornithologist and mammalogist and leader of the Ornithological Section. He used it to prepare study skins of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, collected in London in 1883, and an Eastern Mole, collected at Point Pelee in 1910. Before good quality field glasses were easily available and relatively affordable, naturalists shot birds, trapped mammals, and preserved both. Specimens were identified through comparison with a reference collection of study skins.
