Label TextLieutenant-Colonel Gordon John Ingram (1883-1958) wore this bear skin hat as a member of the 7th Regiment Fusiliers, a unit he joined about 1900 and for which he was Company Commander and Adjutant for some years. Ingram was the son of one of the founders of Smallman & Ingram Limited, one of the largest retailers in London. He joined the firm in 1908, became its president in 1916, and operated it until 1944, at which time Simpson's bought the store. Ingram volunteered for active service with the 18th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) in 1914. The CEF recruited soldiers for the Great War and mobilized in London. Through his extensive service, he earned numerous medals and honours including the Order of the British Empire, and British War and Victory medals. Ingram was stationed in Canada during the Second World War and retired from the Canadian Army in 1948.
