Initially, Scott's company was located in Newark, New Jersey, as "R. P. Scott & Co." The business relocated to Baltimore and evolved into the Sinclair Scott Manufacturing Company by 1890. The company later expanded into manufacturing canning and kitchen equipment and eventually entered the automobile business.
