Label TextThe Columbian Printing Press, also known as an ‘Eagle Press’ on account of the bald eagle on the counterweight, was developed in the United States by George Clymer. This example is probably dating from the 1820s. It has a heavy cast-iron frame, in order to withstand the massive pressures of the printing process. The frame is decorated symbolically, with an eagle ornament attached to the top.
