Label TextThis green smock belonged to Mrs. Helen MacColl Pringle, a volunteer at London’s Active Service Club. It opened in December 1940. Said Betty Spicer, another volunteer: “No record was kept of our output of sandwiches, cups of coffee, plates of eggs and bacon, pork and beans, and toast.” This wasn’t quite true. Records indicated that by war’s end, volunteers served 588,000 meals to 1.6 million service personnel.
