Label TextHere, members of the militia parade down Dundas Street in July 1899 as Londoners look on. On May 22, 1899, 79 motormen and conductors, employees of the London Street Railway Company, walked off the job. In response to the strike, the LSR hired replacments, which, in turn, provoked rioting from June to September. The militia was called out to keep the peace on July 8. The employees and the company did not resolve their issues, leading to continued labour unrest until 1917, when the employees organized a new union.
