Label TextThe photo-postcard depicts the interior of the Soldiers' Club, a lounge established by the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire to show their support for the efforts being made by soldiers on behalf of the British Empire. It was located at 291-295 Dundas Street. The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (I.O.D.E.) was established when the South African War began in 1899. It was started as a women's organization to promote colonial patriotism to the British Empire and provide charitable aid to soldiers and their families. The organization had branches established across Canada, with the highest number in Ontario.
