The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (I.O.D.E.) was established when the Boer War began in 1899. It was started as a women's organization to promote colonial patriotism to the British Empire and provide charitable aid to soldiers and their families. The organization had branches established across Canada, with the highest number in Ontario.
