Label TextAmerican inventor, Thomas Edison, developed aluminum foil covered cylinders for voice recording and playback in 1877. Canada’s Alexander Graham Bell and his colleagues improved upon the invention by using wax instead of fragile aluminum foil. Ethnographers like Seaborn, as well as officer workers, used the wax cylinders from the 1930s until the early 1960s.
