Label TextLondoner Millicent Giddens bequeathed her extensive glass collection to the museum after her passing in 1941. Since 1905, Giddens and a group of friends known as "The Antiquarians" collected curios from vintage shops around the London area. This is an example of slag glass from Giddens' collection. Slag glass a type of colored pressed opaque glass made using the "slag" left over during the iron smelting process. The iron ore slag is ground to a powder and used to make glass with a distinct coloured swirl pattern.
