Label TextLondoner Millicent Giddens bequeathed her extensive glass collection to the museum after her passing in 1941. Since 1905, Giddens and a group of friends known as "The Antiquarians" collected curios from vintage shops around the London area. This is an example of milk glass from Giddens' collection. Milk glass has its distinct finish due to the particles having a particular dispersion and reacting to light scattering. Opacifiers such as bone ash, or tin dioxide are dissolved in molten glass. The finish can range from white, to blue and sometimes red-orange when light is aimed at it.
