Label TextThis cork block is a piece of salvage from the steamer Victoria, which capsized while en route from Springbank Park to downtown on Victoria Day (May 24), 1881. The tragedy claimed almost 200 lives. The carving on the cork reads, "This Cork is/From the wreck/of Victoria steamer on/the river Thames /London/C.W./24th May 1881."
