Label TextCharles Potter made this watch fob and chain from metal salvaged from the wreck of the steamer Victoria. The vessel capsized on 24 May 1881 and approximately 200 people died. According to family lore, Mr. Potter made the fob and chain at the William Quick Blacksmith Shop outside of Mount Brydges, Ontario. A watch fob is a chain that attached to a pocket watch so it can be easily pulled out of a pocket. People often added charms to their fob to personalize it.
