Label TextMourning cards such as this were common in the 19th-century. They often had religious symbols and passages printed on them, to offer prayers for the deceased. The use of stationery like this has a long history but is most associated with the Victorian era. Rules covered its use just as they dictated all other aspects of mourning. It was common for the bereaved to send letters on mourning stationery for a year or longer. This was a mark of respect for the deceased.
