Label TextIn 1959, Baltimore’s McCormick & Company, a seasoning and flavouring firm, purchased Gorman, Eckert & Company. They adopted the “Club House” brand, later changing their name to Club House Food Limited. The company continues to operate in London. The Gorman, Eckert & Company introduced the “Club House” brand name in 1928. That same year, the company purchased London’s I.X.L. Spice and Coffee Mills. As a result, they introduced new products such as peanuts, peanut butter, and jelly powders. William Gorman and D. J. Dyson founded the Forest City Spice Mills in 1883, locating it in a building on Talbot Street. It first packaged coffee but added spices, baking powder, and flavouring extracts to its product line in 1885. In 1890, D. J. Dyson left the business and R. C. Eckert joined it. Renamed the Gorman, Eckert & Company, it continued to package and sell coffee, spices, and flavouring extracts. By 1900, the company had added catsup, salad dressings, and mustard. With sales high and the business growing, the company erected a new building on Clarence Street.
