Label TextGreek immigrant, Bill Agnos used this shoe buffing machine at his London business, Capitol Shoe Repair and Hat Cleaners, from 1934 until his retirement in 1972. By the late 20th century, shoe cleaning and repair became less popular. Many people chose to replace shoes rather than spend money on their care. As well, more casual work dress meant fewer people wore shoes needing polish. That trend is beginning to reverse itself today.
