Label TextThis cigar box features Jack Canuck, a symbol of Canada and its people. Canadians had been referred to as “Canucks” from the early 19th century. But the figure you see here was a creation of late 19th century political cartoonists. Earlier, Canada had been personified as a toddler and a maiden threatened by the United States’ designing Uncle Sam.
