Label TextThe RCAF jacket belonged to Flying Officer John Allan Smith (1934-1955). On April 2, 1955, the T-33 jet trainer he was flying crashed near London’s Tweedsmuir Avenue, 500 metres from Smith’s own home. Both Smith and RCAF Flight Cadet William H. Couldridge (1933-1955), from Arva, died. Part of Canada’s early Cold War military, the two young men had enlisted to defend their country and its allies.
