Label TextThis photograph depicts the staff of the London Collegiate Institute. It likely includes Dr. Alexander Hotson since his daughter, Aletha Hotson, donated the image. Dr. Hotson grew up in Oxford County and attended the Toronto Normal School in 1874 before coming to London to be the principal of S. George's Public School. In 1878 he joined the staff of the newly-constructed London Collegiate Institute as the science teacher. The school was was located at the northwest corner of Dufferin and Waterloo Streets. The original building burned down in 1920 and was replaced with the London Central Collegiate Institute in 1922, now known as London Central Secondary School. Hotson received his medical education from Western and pursued his studies while teaching at the Collegiate Institute. He graduated in 1889. He became a professor of Zoology at the university and later took over a medical practice in Parkhill, Ontario.
