Label TextThis early to mid-20th century operating or dental chair looks far from comfortable. But it was made of metal and enamel for a reason. It could be cleaned to ensure an aseptic environment for patients. This model followed a long line of predecessors. In the early 1800s, individual dentists devised their own chairs. From the mid-19th century, dental equipment manufacturing firms took over. They designed ornate, upholstered, adjustable chairs. Cleanliness was not a concern!
