Label TextThis is a circa 1935 “Monitor Top” General Electric refrigerator. Named for the gun turret on the Civil War era (1861-1865) American warship the USS Monitor, its motor is on top of the unit. The first automatic refrigerators entered the North American market in 1918. Only 21 per cent of Canadian households owned an electric refrigerator in 1941.
