Label TextThis building, designed by Detroit architect Gordon Lloyd in 1872-73, stood on Piccadilly Street. The Gothic stone building was to be the Chapter House for Bishop Isaac Hellmuth's proposed Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. This Chapter House containe a syond hall, offices, and a chapel large enough for 500. It also had six large windows, nearly 30 feet hight, which brought light into the building. The stone had been quarried in St. Marys and the building constructed by stone mason Ebenezer North. When Bishop Hellmuth retired in 1883, the plans for his cathedral died. What was to have been the Chapter House was used for a range of different purposes: a private girls' school, a warehouse for the Daly tea company, and the National Defence Headquarters in London. The building was demolished in 1982 to make a parking lot for the newly converted former Selby Building.
