Label TextThese galvanized steel buckets have three handles. The top handles are weighted on one side so that the handle stands up when the buckets are not stacked. The other two handles are fixed, allowing the bucket to be held when tossing water onto a fire. Buckets played an important role in firefighting before the advent of hand-pumped fire engines and the use of fire hose lines. Firefighters in the "bucket brigade" would pass buckets of water to each other to extinguish flames.
