Label TextThis shelving unit came from one of London's fire halls. The first fire hall in the city was opened on Carling Street in 1847, and later replaced by one on King Street in 1853. This fire hall served the entirety of London until new fire stations were constructed. A permanent, paid firefighting force for the city had been established in 1871. The No. 2 fire house was opened on Rectory Street in 1885 and No. 3 fire house opened on Bruce Street in 1891. More fire halls were opened as the city's population and infrastructure grew.
